Yesterday evening I was invited to see Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach.
Was really interesting to see 'paintings' come to life!
I was also able to walk around and enjoy some beautiful art by the likes of Auster, Situ and more.
Very enjoyable. Go if you can.
I have been to the Sawdust Festival as well and the atmosphere is just as lovely.
You will definitely walk away with an appreciation for the arts!
So the other day my friend the artist Oscar Arroyo and I
decided to do some plein air painting.
Originally the plan was to paint the parking structure that is currently under construction across the street.. but we both became a little distracted by the gorgeous clouds.
Personally I was feeling like painting a 'figure' and since Oscars figure was directly to my left I asked permission to paint him, pointed my chair in his direction and began!
I think sometimes it is best to go with your gut when painting outdoors. The result will be less technical..maybe more emotive..atleast in my experience this has been the case.
(Perhaps less muttering will occur as well hah :)
Anyway.. Oscar decided to paint a beautiful light pole with scattered clouds behind instead of his original idea of painting the two port-o-potties across the way haha.
It was rather warm but our water and 'Chango' kept us hydrated!
Later on we got into a slightly philosophical discussion about what it is that actually happens when we 'paint'.
Me: "It's just constant! correction after correction after correction!..I mean..what is that!?"
Oscar: "Its called painting Esther."
Yea. I know.
