A piece painted with inspiration from 'Another Time'.
When I paint a piece it is usually because I have an 'immediate' idea or inspiration.
However, from time to time I will pose figures and quick sketch/save them in order to emote a latent feeling I might want to use in a future work..
That is how this piece came to be.. from past inspiration.
I began to reminisce about the past as I was driving along the freeway this morning...
the very very distant past..as in before you or I..the hills of California got me thinking about what the land looked like before human hands had touched it.
I suddenly became nostalgic about a time I have never experienced before..
it was a very strange..strong thing..
Perhaps when we reflect upon the past and how different things are and have been for others then maybe we will be better able to forge connections between each other today. Maybe we can have empathy for our fellow man simply by 'trying' to understand that which we can never hope to in experience..
I think it is possible. I hope it is.
Below is a poem I wrote a while ago for loved ones lost by distance and death.
It expresses the hope I wish to see in this piece along with the truth.
'You made the small sublime
The bumps and the lines that cross
The space that is filled
Why does time have to exist?
someday I will murder it
but not today..
You are here
lean and luminous
and rising above
